Homeopathy FAQ’s
Remedies are derived from a variety of natural substances of plant, mineral or animal origin and are prepared in licensed laboratories under strict quality control. They are given in many forms including tablet, granule, drops or powder.
In Ireland they are regulated by the Health Products Regulatory Authority.
The method used to prepare a remedy negates any side effects or toxicity the substance may normally have, while retaining its beneficial properties. In the correct dosage, remedies are safe to use for everybody, including infants or the elderly.
Homeopathic medicines do not interfere with the action of prescription drugs. If you are on prescribed medication you should not stop that medication without first consulting the doctor who prescribed it.
The Irish Society of Homeopaths is the body that regulates the homeopathic profession in Ireland. They set and maintain the highest standards for homeopathy. Central to this role is maintaining the register of qualified homeopaths. After graduation from an accredited four-year-course, a homeopath enrols in a process of professional development related to registration. A registered homeopath abides by the Society’s Code of Ethics and can use the letters ISHom after their name, as well as engaging in CPD (continuous professional development). The Irish Society of Homeopaths is recognised by the Department of Health and Children and has participated in the National Working Group towards an Irish integrated health system.
Over 30 million people in Europe use homeopathic remedies, either as over-the-counter remedies to treat simple ailments, or having them prescribed by a GP or homeopath.
Most private health insurance providers will give refunds for appointments with a registered homeopath. Please refer to your policy details.
